The 2006 Colorado State volleyball team stepped onto the court for the first time today, beginning practice 16 days prior to its first match.

Head Coach Tom Hilbert was pleased with the three-hour practice.

"It was a typical first day," said Hilbert. "We introduced some new things and some of the young kids were breathing hard and confused with our terminology, but I saw some really good things. Our returners are all in great shape and I feel we have a solid group of players and we are going to put a pretty good team on the floor."

The Rams have 14 on their roster with six returners from 2005, two redshirts and six newcomers to the team. Senior Katherine Whitney, junior Tonya Mokelki and sophomores Mekana Barnes and Ashley Fornstrom are all returning starters, while junior Amanda Fahnestock and sophomore Jaime Strauss both saw extensive action a season ago on a team that went 21-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight time.

Colorado State begins two-a-day workouts in the morning with the first practice at 8:00. The season begins with The Hilton Classic on Friday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. against Texas A&M.
