FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State volleyball moved up two spots, becoming the top-ranked Mountain West Conference team, to No. 23 in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches poll after a light week. The Rams return to MWC action leading the league as they face regional foes Air Force and Wyoming this week. CSU will play at Air Force Thursday and finish out the week at Wyoming Saturday evening.
The Rams travel to Colorado Springs Thursday to face an Air Force squad that has struggled in the Mountain West this season. The Falcons, who are 0-7 in MWC action, have won just once in the 27-match series with CSU. They currently are on a six-match losing streak. Katie Batchelder leads the Falcons with 174 kills this season, an average of 2.90 per game. Air Force setter Kim Kallabis ranks 10th all-time in assists for the Academy.
With just two matches remaining until the halfway mark of MWC competition, the Rams are leading with a 5-1 record. CSU has stayed atop the conference with some potent offense. The Rams are ranked sixth in the nation in kills per game, averaging 17.07. CSU also is ranked fifth in blocks per game with Mekana Barnes leading the way and ranking second individually. The Rams are 15th in the nation in hitting percentage and 16th in assists per game. Ashley Fornstrom ranks seventh individually in assists per game.
