FORT COLLINS - Six home games in Fort Collins and the annual in-state battle with the University of Colorado in Denver highlight Colorado State's 2007 football schedule, announced today by Director of Athletics Paul Kowalczyk.

"We believe that this is the most attractive home schedule in school history and will provide fans a chance to see the Rams in action seven times without leaving the area," Kowalczyk said. "It will also be a very challenging one for Coach Sonny Lubick and our program. I know everyone associated with our program is excited about the upcoming season.

Colorado State will open the 2007 season Sept. 1 against CU at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver. The Rams then play the first of six home games in Fort Collins the following week against Cal. Also highlighting this year's home schedule are dates with Mountain West Conference rivals Air Force, San Diego State, Utah and Wyoming, along with a nonconference game against perennial NCAA Division IAA power Georgia Southern.

The Rams' annual Border War clash with Wyoming takes place on Friday, Nov. 23 the day after Thanksgiving in Fort Collins. Kickoff time is 12 noon.

To date, nine of the 12 games on the schedule will be televised, including two national appearances when the Rams play Cal and Houston. Telecast plans for the team's opening game with Colorado are pending.

Six teams on the 2007 schedule including BYU, Cal, Houston, New Mexico, TCU and Utah, played in bowl games last season. Three opponents - BYU, Cal, and Houston - won their respective conference titles outright (BYU, Houston) or shared the top spot (Cal).

Athletic department officials expect to announce special game promotions in the coming weeks.

The Rams have 20 returning starters on hand - the most during Lubick's 15 seasons at the helm - for 2007 including junior RB Kyle Bell. He rushed for 1,288 yards and scored 10 touchdowns in 2005 but missed all of the `06 campaign when he suffered an injured right knee the week of the team's opening game. QB Caleb Hanie, who started all 12 games in 2006, also returns. Defensively, nine starters return to a unit that ranked among the conference and national leaders the entire season. Colorado State also returns starters P Jimmie Kaylor, who is currently atop the school's career list for punting average, and K Jason Smith.
