Green Squad Rushes Past Gold, 14-9

Fort Collins, Colo. - Aaron Sanchez and John Mosure scored on runs of nine and three yards, respectively to power the Green team to a 14-9 victory over the Gold squad in front of 4,631 fans in Saturday's Spring Game in Fort Collins.

Sanchez' score, which came after Gold took a 3-0 advantage on a 32-yard field goal by Durrell Chomorro, gave Green a 7-3 lead at the halftime break. Following a scoreless third period, Mosure capped a scoring drive with a run three yards out to put the Green ahead 14-3 with 5:12 to go in the fourth.

Senior quarterback Caleb Hanie engineered a 70-yard drive completed when George Hill hauled in a 14-yard strike from Hanie to pull the Gold within five, 14-9. Following a failed two-point try, the game was called with the Green team holding the five-point advantage.

Mosure led all rushers with nine attempts for 49 yards while Gartrell Johnson had nine carries for 48 yards. Sanchez had just two rushes for 13 yards including his nine-yard scoring run.

Fort Collins native Alex Square notched a squad-best 34 yards rushing on six carried while Michael Myers managed 28 yards on 10 touches for the Gold team.

Through the air, Caleb Hanie was 10-for-14 for 126 yards and a touchdown while Nick Neuenfeldt was 3-of-5 for 57 yards for the Green. Billy Farris also completed 4-of-8 passes for 40 yards on the day.

Luke Roberts was the leading receiver in the game with 56 yards on three catches while Damon Morton had 42 yards and Dion Morton ended with 40.

Defensively, Gold team member Zac Bryson led the way with seven takedowns including three tackles for yards lost and one sack. Darryl Williams led the Green squad with five stops and one pass break up. John Clark and Blake Smith ended with five tackles on the day as well. Smith added three sacks in the game.

In all, 10 quarterback sacks were recorded by both defenses on the day.
