This week’s notable storylines…
- CSU bids for its first victory over San Diego State since 2004, a 21-17 triumph at Qualcomm Stadium. The Rams (0-2) have not defeated SDSU head coach Chuck Long.
- The Rams continue a stretch of games in which they play three out of four weeks on the road. That brutal four-game stretch includes No. 15 TCU (Oct. 11, 13-7 loss), No. 12 Utah (Oct. 18, 49-16 loss) and No. 18 BYU (Nov. 1 in Fort Collins).
- After opening the year playing five of their first six in Colorado, the Rams’ second-half schedule includes four road trips in six weeks. However, this week the Rams make their last plane trip of the year. Three of CSU’s games away from Fort Collins are bus trips (Colorado Springs, Laramie, Denver).
- CSU is hopeful to see starting FS Klint Kubiak (ankle) return to the lineup. Without him since the beginning of 2007, the Rams are 3-9 (.250). With him over the same period, they’re 3-4 (.429).
- CSU looks to snap its first two-game slide with Steve Fairchild on its coaching staff since Oct. 9-16, 1999. With Fairchild, the Rams have lost three consecutive games only once — Sept. 18-Oct. 2, 1993 (vs. BYU, at Nebraska, at Kansas).
- With a win CSU would have one more victory than all of 2007 (3-9) and be 4-4 with four regular-season games remaining.
