FORT COLLINS, Colo. - A little more than two weeks prior to the NFL Draft, Colorado State prospect Jesse Nading received another academic honor this week. Nading was inducted into the Hampshire Honor Society, sponsored by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).
A 6-foot-5, 252-pound defensive end out of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Nading graduated in December with a degree in finance and a 3.55 GPA. The Hampshire Honor Society is made up of college football players who maintained a 3.2 GPA or better and made significant contributions to their teams while completing progress toward their degrees.
On the field, Nading also earned second-team all-conference honors.
Nading, who was invited to the East-West Shrine Game and has received several invitations to work out for NFL clubs in recent weeks, could become CSU's first defensive end drafted since the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Clark Haggans in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Haggans, who helped the Steelers to a Super Bowl XL championship, recently signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals.
Nading started all 12 games at defensive end last season, collecting 56 tackles (19 solo), 6½ tackles for loss, 3½ sacks, one INT, one pass breakup and three fumble recoveries. Voted a team captain before each of CSU's 12 games, he was the only Rams defender to receive that honor for each contest. He also was one of the conference's only defensive linemen to personally account for at least four takeaways
The Hampshire Honor Society becomes the latest component of the organization's efforts to promote combined athletic and academic success. Launched in 1959, the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete Awards program became the first initiative in history to credit a player for his combined academic success, football performance and community leadership.
