FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Six CSU volleyball players, including 2007 All-American Mekana Barnes, have been named to the Mountain West's 10th Anniversary Volleyball Team, the conference revealed Wednesday.
The list also includes former Rams greats Melissa Courtney, Courtney Cox, Angela Knopf, Tess Rogers and Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon.
"I'm really proud of our presence on the team," said Tom Hilbert, CSU's only Head Coach during the Rams' time in the Mountain West. "When you go through each season, and we get honors, it looks like you're just doing your job. But when you stand back and look at it from the perspective of 10 years, well, that shows a lot of tradition. This is really special."
To be considered for a spot on the team, a student-athlete must have been a first-team all-Mountain West selection at least once in her career. Votes were tallied from selected media members, conference and institutional staff, and an on-line fan poll.
CSU received an overwhelming majority of the 16 players named to the anniversary team. Out of the six Rams named, Courtney, also was given the honor of designated setter on the team.
"I'd like to have all six of those players on the court at one time," Hilbert said. "That would be a dream team."
