FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Rams continued preparations Monday morning as the team returned to two-a-days in the final week of camp before classes begin next Monday.
In the 1-hour, 50-minute morning session, the team spent time with respective position groups, in addition to running thud drills. It finished the day with a 95-minute afternoon practice in shoulder pads and shorts.
Participating in thud drills was senior defensive end Tommie Hill. While still wearing a red jersey, Hill took reps in full pads and ran with the No. 1 defense. He recorded a sack on the day, taking down Billy Farris for a 5-yard loss.
In other injury news, junior Jyrone Hickman returned to full pads, taking reps at the wide receiver position. While he didn't engage in much contact, the junior-college transfer was running routes and appears to be making steady progress.
Also showing improvement was redshirt freshman Klay Kubiak, who has continued to take snaps with the No. 2 offense. In a post-practice interview with reporters, Head Coach Steve Fairchild reiterated that Kubiak is the Rams' backup QB, saying Kubiak made more good plays and less bad plays than his teammates competing for the No. 2 spot, and did it consistently.
The Rams will practice again Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. Both practices are open to the public and are scheduled for the intramural fields just east of the regular practice fields. In an effort to preserve the grounds, the Rams will continue to practice on the intramural fields through Wednesday.
Dr. Larry Penley, President of the CSU System, visited practice Monday afternoon.
