TEAM NOTES
Three losses: The opponents who have defeated CSU this year have a combined 12-3 record (.800). BYU, Idaho and Utah are each 4-1. Idaho was leading tonight at the half, 14-12, at San Jose State, looking to go 5-1.

First lead vs. Utes: Leonard Mason in the third quarter gave CSU its first lead against Utah since Oct. 8, 2005, a 21-17 win sealed by CSU's fourth-quarter goal-line stand.

Scoring first: For only the second time this season, a Rams opponent scored first. CSU had scored first in seven consecutive home games, a streak that started Sept. 20, 2008, vs. Houston.

  • The last time the Rams allowed an opponent to score first in Fort Collins was Sept 6, 2008, a 23-20 win vs. Sacramento State.

Interceptions: The Rams have now intercepted a pass in seven consecutive games, a stretch that began with Tommie Hill's game-changing play in the 2008 New Mexico Bowl. The streak is their longest stretch since they had INTs in seven straight, from Nov. 17, 2001, to Sept. 28, 2002. That streak included the 2001 New Orleans Bowl.

  • The Rams already have more INTs than they had during all of 2008 (eight), 2007 (seven) and 2006 (seven).
  • CSU is on pace for 18 interceptions this season, which would be its most in a year since the Rams had 19 in 1997, when CSU went 11-2, knocked off Missouri in the Holiday Bowl and finished No. 17 in the final AP poll.
  • The school record is 25 in 1990, when the Rams defeated Oregon in the Freedom Bowl.

Ball security: Entering this week, CSU was one of only five teams among 120 in the Football Bowl Subdivision to have not lost a fumble this season, joining Cincinnati, Nebraska, Idaho and Oregon State. Some related notes entering this week:

  • CSU's last fumble lost was Nov. 22, 2008, at Wyoming (G.Johnson).
  • The Rams have gone 469 consecutive offensive snaps without losing fumble, over seven straight games.
  • Over a longer stretch, the Rams have lost only one fumble in their past 10 games.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Leonard Mason: Had 24 carries for 131 yards, his second 100-yard game (also 23-for-107 at Colorado, Sept. 6).

Dion Morton: Had a season-high 106 receiving yards, his fourth career 100-yard receiving game. He also had a huge 43-yard kickoff return to answer Utah's game-tying touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Morton entered the game second in the MWC, averaging 26.5 yards per return.

Paul Madsen: Made his first career start, replacing an injured Mark Starr at strong tackle.

Alex Square: On the Rams' first series, made his third career reception (on a shovel pass), his first since Oct. 7, 2006, when he had two vs. UNLV.

Ben DeLine: Hit a game-tying 43-yard field goal in the second quarter. He's now 3-for-3 in his career from 40-49 yards, all this season.
