Thomsen, Majam lift Rams over Bears

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Freshman Christine Thomsen and junior Allison Majam finished the game a combined 6-for-9 with five RBI and five runs scored as Colorado State (19-20, 2-3 MWC) defeated in-state rival Northern Colorado (16-23), 10-9, in nine innings on Tuesday at Ram Field.
Thomsen recorded four singles in the game and her first collegiate home run. She recorded her first single and RBI in the bottom of the third inning when she plated sophomore Caitlan Stem to cut the Northern Colorado lead to 4-3.
After freshman Jenna Krogh cut the Bears’ lead in the bottom of the seventh to 8-6 on her single up the middle to plate Stem, Thomsen tied the game, 8-8, on her two-run homer to right field to plate Krogh and send the game into extra innings.
Northern Colorado scored a run in the top of the ninth to grab a 9-8 advantage, but Majam knocked a two-out triple to right center in the bottom half of the inning to plate freshmen Ashley MacQueen and Thomsen to give Colorado State the 10-9 victory.
Freshman Kelli Eubanks started in the circle for the Rams, tossing 2.2 innings before being relieved by fellow freshman Dani Chaplin. Chaplin threw 2.2 innings before being replaced by senior Kim Klabough, who finshed the game for Colorado State, allowing one run on two hits in 3.2 innings. Klabough picked up her fifth win of the season while striking out two Northern Colorado batters.
The Rams host New Mexico Saturday at Ram Field for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Admission to all home games, played at Ram Field, is free of charge.
