FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State wrapped another set of two-a-day practices Wednesday afternoon, going for nearly 90 minutes in full pads.

The Rams now have just one day remaining with more than one practice – a similar schedule on Friday. Sandwiched between is a closed scrimmage at the stadium Thursday, when Head Coach Steve Fairchild and his staff will run the players through mostly team drills.

The team has another scrimmage scheduled for Saturday. The scrimmage is closed to the public but both Friday practices (7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m.) and most practices for the rest of the fall remain open. The 4 p.m. practice Friday is Meet the Rams Day, in which fans can get free autographs and bring cameras to take photos with the coaches and players following the workout.

CSU students begin classes Monday.

Plays of the Day: Tyson Liggett maintained his concentration while hauling in a juggling sideline catch early in the afternoon. Later on offense, Grant Stucker fired a beautiful 45-yard touchdown to Rashaun Greer, just after Lou Greenwood scored on a screen during a situational period. UCLA transfer Raymond Carter also made a nice cut in the backfield before galloping 63 yards for another score.

On defense, Nick Oppenneer made a leaping interception, Ty Whittier hustled over to force a fumble after a completion in the flat, true freshman C.J. James batted down a pass, and Brandon Owens broke up a sure touchdown in the corner of the end zone.

Daniels selected to national convention: Defensive end Eugene Daniels, who heads up CSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), has been selected to represent the Mountain West Conference at the national SAAC convention.

Daniels and other conference representatives will offer input on new NCAA legislation. He is the third member of CSU’s athletic department with a voice on an NCAA panel at a national level. Director of Athletics Paul Kowalczyk is on the prestigious NCAA Division I Leadership Council, and assistant athletic director/compliance Matt Brewer is on the NCAA recruiting cabinet.

Meet the Rams Day update: Friday’s Meet the Rams Day, which offers free autographs and photos for fans with cameras in attendance after the 4 p.m. practice, has changed locations. The event now will be held at the team’s normal practice facility, on Shields and Elizabeth streets.

The Rams this week have been practicing on the former baseball field to save the surface on their primary fields for the duration of the season.
