This week's notable storylines...
- The Rams play a game in which each team is receiving votes in both national polls. It's CSU's first such contest since Aug. 30, 2003, when the Rams (No. 23) lost a hard-fought battle to the CU Buffs (received votes), 42-35 at Invesco Field.
- CSU meets its third ranked opponent under Steve Fairchild (2008 losses vs. BYU, at Utah). The Rams' last win over a ranked foe was Aug. 31, 2002, a 19-14 triumph over No. 7 CU in Denver. The Rams' last win over a ranked foe in an enemy stadium was Aug. 29, 1998, when No. 15 CSU topped No. 23 Michigan State in East Lansing.
- The Rams own the nation's seventh-longest win streak (six). CSU will attempt to extend its streak to seven games, which would be its longest since a 10-game stretch, Oct. 4, 1997-Aug. 29, 1998.
- CSU opens its 2009 conference slate, having won three of its last four conference openers, including a dramatic triumph over UNLV in 2008.
- CSU, receiving votes in both national polls for a third straight week, will attempt to begin a season 4-0 for the first time since 1994, when it went 7-0 in arguably the most magical season in program history. The Rams that year made their first-ever appearance in the AP top 25 and went on to a WAC title and Holiday Bowl berth opposite Michigan. In the final polls, coaches ranked CSU No. 14 and the AP ranked CSU No. 16.
- The Rams meet their second of five 2009 opponents that played in a 2008 bowl (also Nevada, Utah, TCU and Air Force).
- Four of those bowl teams are in the current five-game stretch. Three of CSU's next four opponents are/were ranked this year (the Rams' first three conference games). This marks only the third time the Rams' schedule features three teams ranked in the AP's preseason top 25.
