FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Maybe the coaches thought the team earned a lighter practice, or maybe this morning’s two injuries to Thomas Coffman and Scott Carter had them worried, but whatever the reason the Rams took to the field with shorts and pads on Thursday afternoon.

The practice was by no means less intense. If anything it was more intense with the offense looking to prove itself after allowing the defense to win in three straight practices.

Although there were no live periods or modified scoring system, the offense came out with a chip on its shoulder. Pete Thomas connected on crossing routes to Byron Steele and Tyson Liggett, while Nico Ranieri hit Marquise Law down the sideline for nice gains.

The defense wasn’t going to leave the field without making a couple plays of its own. A pass thrown to the back of the end zone was tipped by two defenders before falling into the hands of Ezra Thompson, his fourth interception in three days. Then during the last team period of the day, Travis Ford out jumped a receiver to intercept the pass at its highest point.

The Rams will be back on the fields south of Moby Arena Friday morning at 7:45, for the lone practice of the day.

New face: The Rams have added more depth to the wide receiver position. Brett Etherton, a 6-3, 200-pound freshman out of Grossmont High School in La Mesa, Calif., hometown of Super Bowl winner Reggie Bush and former Utah quarterback Alex Smith, joined the team. Etherton played against Thomas in high school.

Meet the Rams Day: On Saturday the CSU football program will host the second annual Meet the Rams Day. Admission and parking are free for the event that begins with a 12 p.m. practice. The practice will include an intra-squad scrimmage, but if that doesn’t excite the kids, the always popular Ram Town inflatables will be up and running on the north concourse. After practice all fans are welcome down onto the field for autographs and pictures with their favorite players.
Restrooms and concessions will also be available for CSU fans. The Ram faithful should plan to park on the west side of the stadium, using Gates 6 and 7 to enter.
