FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Ranked No. 17 nationally and selected as the preseason favorite to repeat as Mountain West Conference champion, the CSU volleyball team is poised for one of the most exciting seasons in program history in 2010.
And CSU athletics is offering fans a number of special promotions to cheer on the Rams at Moby Arena as they pursue a 16th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, beginning Aug. 27 in the season- and home-opener vs. Duke.
When the Rams and Blue Devils take the court to open the Coors Rocky Mountain Challenge, CSU’s ACC foe will be met by a barrage of white, as Russell Athletic is sponsoring the Moby Arena “White Out” by offering free T-shirts to the first 500 CSU students in attendance at the match. All fans are encouraged to wear white to Moby as the Rams look to start off the season with a big win over a quality opponent.
That will mark the first of three nights in which fans will be encouraged to come out in a special color. Additionally, Oct. 20 vs. in-state rival Denver will be the Rams’ annual “Dig Pink” night in which the Rams will don special pink jerseys and fans are encouraged to wear pink to show support for breast cancer awareness.
The following match, Oct. 22 vs. Wyoming, will also be more than just the annual “Border War.” Following in a new tradition started by CSU’s men’s basketball and football programs, the team will don special orange jerseys against the Cowgirls to pay homage to the school’s roots as Colorado A&M.
Pepsi 4-Packs
Several of the Rams’ most exciting matches on the home schedule are being offered as “Pepsi 4-Packs.” Priced at just $30, those packages consist of four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks to any of the following contests: Aug. 27 vs. Duke, Sept. 11 vs. Northeastern, Sept. 17 vs. Long Beach State, Sept. 30 vs. San Diego State, Oct. 20 vs. Denver, Nov. 6 vs. Air Force or Nov. 24 vs. Utah.
Kids Watch Free Nights
Two matches have been designated “Kids Watch Free Nights.” Children 12 and younger will receive free admission (with a paid adult) to the Aug. 28 match vs. Furman or the Nov. 26 contest vs. BYU.
CSU Dorm Challenges
The Duke “White Out” won’t be the only promo tailored toward students. Matches Sept. 16 and 17 vs. VCU and Long Beach State, respectively, have been targeted as the annual Dorm Challenge matches. Further details will be announced at a later date, but all on-campus students are encouraged to attend and support the Rams for chances to win prizes.
Home TV Matches
The CSU volleyball program has become one of the most televised programs in the nation, and 2010 will be no different, with at least four matches – including two home contests – slated for telecast. The Rams’ two home TV matches this season include the contest vs. rival Colorado on Aug. 31 and the Oct. 14 showdown vs. MWC foe TCU.
The match between the Rams and the Buffs will air on a tape-delay Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. on CET (Comcast channel 5), and will also be shown Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. on the MoutainWest Sports Network (The Mtn.).
CSU’s contest vs. TCU will air live on The Mtn. and is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Additional Promotions
Several other single matches will also include special promotions, beginning Sept. 10 when the Rams take on Big 12 opponent Texas Tech for Ram Club appreciation night. All Ram Club members will gain free admission (with voucher).
On Sept. 11 the Rams host “Local Heroes Night” against Illinois State, offering $1 tickets (with voucher) to service men and women as well as members of the police and fire departments, EMTs, and all branches of the military.
The annual picture night is scheduled for Sept. 16. Following the Rams’ contest vs. VCU, fans will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the team, and will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the match vs. Long Beach State the following night when the pictures can be picked up.
Oct. 14 vs. TCU marks the debut tentative of Colorado State’s new state-of-the-art video board at Moby Arena. To celebrate, CSU athletics is offering $2 tickets to watch the Rams take on the Horned Frogs.
Oct. 16 vs. New Mexico has been tabbed a special “Hike and Spike” day. Fans on hand to cheer on CSU’s football team on homecoming vs. UNLV (12 p.m. kickoff) will receive admission to that night’s volleyball match for just $3 with a ticket stub from Sonny Lubick field at Hughes Stadium.
Fan Appreciation Week
The regular season will conclude Nov. 24 and 26 at Moby Arena against Utah and BYU, respectively, and in conjunction with the Thanksgiving holiday, those matches have been designated “Fan Appreciation Week” for CSU volleyball.
Season-ticket holders will also receive a voucher for a free guest ticket to the season finale vs. the Cougars. That night is “Senior Night” and CSU’s senior leaders – Jacque Davisson, Audrey Hemmings, Emily Koenning and Danielle Minch – will play the final matches of their careers at Moby Arena.
