TEAM NOTES
Third down: The Rams were 0-for-5 in the first half on third down, while Nevada was 7-for-8.
0-2 starts: The Rams have gone to just two bowl games (2005, 2008) since going to five straight bowls from 1999-2003.
· Since CSU hired Sonny Lubick in 1993, the Rams have started 0-2 in only three seasons: 2004, 2005 and 2007, Lubick's last season at the reins.
Penalties: Through seven quarters, opponents had been called for 13 penalties. CSU had three, its first tonight not until the last 2 minutes of the first half.
Up next: Cal must know the Rams very well. The Golden Bears will have watched the Rams twice in two weeks now, because for the second straight game, Cal plays an opponent the week after it played CSU. Cal played CU today, and meets Nevada in Reno on Friday.
Fumbles lost: The Rams are among the best teams in the nation over the Steve Fairchild era at protecting the football. Among FBS leaders, the Rams have lost only seven fumbles in 26 games under Fairchild. Meanwhile, CSU's defense during the same span has recovered 20. Mark Starr recovered each of the Rams' two fumbles in
Experienced competition: The Rams began tonight a challenging four-week stretch in which they face three of the six most experienced quarterbacks in the nation. Nevada's Colin Kaepernick (35th career start tonight), Idaho's Nathan Enderle (34 today) and TCU's Andy Dalton (38 today) lay ahead on CSU's schedule.
Against Nevada: CSU came into the night having enjoyed consistent historical success against Nevada, leading the all-time series 9-1-0. However, the Rams' only loss in the 36-year-old series was CSU's last trip to Reno, a 28-10 setback on Sept. 16, 2006. All-time in Reno, CSU is 3-1.
Another debut: All told, 15 freshmen have now played for CSU, including RB Chris Nwoke and DT Curtis Wilson, who made their college debuts tonight.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
· LB Mychal Sisson (knee) saw his 24-game starting streak end. He still has played in all 27 games of his college career, including tonight. The last start he missed was Sept. 6, 2008, vs. Sacramento State, one week after an ankle injury, also sustained vs. CU in the opener that year, kept him out of the lineup, but not out of the game.
· K Ben DeLine, with his 40-yard field goal to put CSU on the board in the first quarter, improved to 6-for-6 career from 40-49 yards. Including his longest career attempt, a missed 50-yard kick at Idaho on Oct. 3, 2009, he's now 6-for-7 career from 40-plus yards.
· DeLine also set a career high with three touchbacks (in as many kickoffs). The only other time in his career he had two touchbacks in a game was Sept. 6, 2008, vs. Sacramento State. He had one touchback all of 2009, and four in 2008 as a true freshman.
· DT Guy Miller and FB Zac Pauga have played in every game of their college careers, 39 including the Nevada game.
· RB/KR Tony Drake made his mark on kickoff returns tonight.
· TE Eric Peitz Had caught a pass in nine straight games, a streak that began Sept. 12, 2009, vs. Weber State, entering tonight. He did not have a catch midway through the fourth quarter.
· CB Shaq Bell and FS Ezra Thompson, both freshmen, got extensive playing time tonight in the Rams' secondary.
