FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- CSU punter Pete Kontodiakos, appearing this week on the watchlist of the Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation's top punter every season, took time to sit down with the Ram Club and answer a few questions.
What is your favorite pregame meal? Any type of pasta.
What do you want to be when you grow up? An NFL punter.
What's your favorite song on your iPod right now? "I can feel it coming in the air tonight," by Phil Collins.
I’m not sure many people realize how much time you and your teammates invest into school and your sport. What does a typical day look like for you as a student-athlete? There's really no down time, or time to just relax. After breakfast, I have class most of the morning, then pre-practice meetings, practice, studying for my classes, and bed.
What excites you most about the current season? We still believe we can win this year and go to a bowl game. It's going to take beating some very tough opponents, but we believe we can do it.
How has being a scholarship recipient impacted you and your family? It's given me a tremendous opportunity to get my degree, and allowed my parents to come see me at games.
Give an example of how a coach has helped you develop in the past year? Coach Lewis breaks down film with me throughout the week, including Sundays after our games.
What is your favorite memory of competing for CSU? When we beat CU in Boulder my first game as a college player, in 2009, at Folsom.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of your current team? That's hard to answer. I guess just that I get along really well with all my teammates, and we enjoy being around each other. We have great chemistry in our locker room.
What are your plans after graduation? I'm going to do everything I can to punt at the next level, and win a job with an NFL team.
What is the hardest class you have taken at CSU? What has been the most enjoyable, and why? Hardest class was probably composition. The one I enjoyed the most was oceanography, because I grew up by the ocean in Florida.
If you could compete against any other athlete, from any time in history, who would it be and why, and who would win? I would really like to punt against Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears and see if he could return my punt. We would have to do it live to see the outcome. There's no speculation with something like that.
What does it mean to you to be a part of the CSU (Rams) community? It truly means a lot ot me. The fans are tremendous in this town, especially the Ram Club supporters, and though we may not win every game, they are still behind us and want to see us succeed not only as football players, but as men. That means a lot to us.
