COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior linebacker Shaquil Barrett joined UNLV's Caleb Herring and Boise State's Demarcus Lawrence as Mountain West Players of the Week for games through Sept. 14. Barrett earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors after CSU's 34-17 home victory vs. Cal Poly.

The linebacker from Baltimore, Md., blocked two Mustang field goals last Saturday. Two blocked field goals is the most in a single-season by a Ram since Erik Sandie blocked three kicks in 2005.

Both blocked attempts prevented Cal Poly from pulling within one touchdown of the Rams. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs threatened to cut the CSU lead to 27-20 when they set up for a 32-yard field goal. Barrett's second block swung the momentum back in favor of the Rams, who proceeded to march down the field and score a touchdown to secure a victory.

Barrett finished the game with seven tackles (five solo), two tackles for loss and one sack.

This marks the second time Barrett has earned the MW weekly accolade, earning the nod as Defensive Player of the Week in 2011.
