LEXINGTON, Ky. – Colorado State held steady in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 6 for the second consecutive week. The Rams earned road wins over New Mexico and Air Force last week, extending their overall win streak to 15 and improving to 20-1 on the season.
CSU has been ranked in 22 polls in a row, including six-straight in the top 10. All-time, CSU has been ranked in 258 of the 470 polls – 14th in the NCAA – and holds 69 appearances in the top 10 – 18th.
The top eight spots all remained the same, but BYU – which CSU beat in September on a neutral court – fell from No. 9 to No. 12. Other 2014 opponents in the poll include No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 18 Arizona State and Marquette (receiving votes).
Rams dip in RPI
While CSU remained put in the top-25 poll, the team slid three spots in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). In the third release of the season, CSU came in at No. 16.
The RPI generally plays a large role in NCAA tournament seeding and determining the 16 first- and second-round host sites. It is based off of three categories: a team’s winning percentage (25 percent), its opponents’ winning percentage (50 percent) and the winning percentage of its opponents’ opponents (25 percent).
NCAA stats and streaks
CSU remains as the only team in the NCAA to rank among the top 20 for hitting percentage (.297; fourth), opponent hitting percentage (.142; ninth), kills (14.35 per set; 13th) assists (13.31 per set; 15th) and blocks (2.74 per set; 20th). Individually, senior setter Deedra Foss ranks eighth for assists (11.54 per set) while senior middle blocker Kelsey Snider ranks 22nd for hitting (.405).
The Rams are averaging 3,046 fans per match, which is seventh-best in the nation. The figure would be the second-highest in program history, trailing only 2013.
Since its only loss of the season on Sept. 6, CSU has rattled off 15-consecutive victories, a figure which ranks sixth in school history and is the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. The Rams’ 26-straight road wins – which dates back to Oct. 27, 2012 – leads the nation by a large margin.
