FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State interim head coach Dave Baldwin announced Friday the addition of two new members to the program. The Rams received signed financial aid agreements from offensive lineman Colby Meeks (Dr. Phillips High School) and tight end Mitch Parsons (Vanderbilt).
Meeks is a 6-foot-3, 302-pound offensive lineman who is graduating from Dr. Phillips High School early so he can get on campus and begin to learn the playbook. Meeks helped lead a strong rushing attack. His high school career came to an end in the Class 8A state playoffs quarterfinals. The Panthers finished the season with a 12-1 record.
"Colby Meeks is an offensive lineman who is an early-out," interim head coach Dave Baldwin said, "He's graduating high school before his last semester to join us and that will give him an advantage because we need offensive linemen in this program. He is an offensive tackle with tremendous size and yet he can run. He plays at one of the premier high schools, Dr. Phillips, in Florida. Colby is a great young man. He made the visit, we were very excited, and we're just thrilled that he'll be here in spring and he'll get a head start on all true freshmen."
Parsons is a 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end that is transferring to CSU from Vanderbilt after redshirting in 2014. Parsons attended Chaparral High School in Parker, Colo. He did not play his first season at Vanderbilt, but he was one of the top high school players in the state of Colorado. He was the No. 2 overall player in Colorado in 2013 and the No. 7 tight end nationally.
As a senior, Parsons hauled in 45 receptions for 754 yards and seven touchdowns. He led his team to an 8-3 record, but they were bounced in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
"We're really excited Mitch Parsons is coming home," Baldwin said. "He was the No. 2 player coming out of Colorado two years ago, a tight end who is big and physical, and yet he can really do things after he gets the ball in his hands. He's coming back to where we think he belongs, and if we can keep those kids in the state and have a shot down the line to know that they can play at our place, it's big for us. He is a great addition to our program."
The Rams' full 2015 recruiting class will be announced on February 4, 2015, when all high school and junior college football student-athletes may sign national letters of intent.
