FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With temperatures in the mid-50s, the Colorado State football team wrapped up its seventh practice of spring, and another successful Saturday practice.

“I think we ought to move that CU game back to Saturday with how well we are practicing on Saturdays,” Head Coach Jim McElwain joked. “The energy and how they came out and attacked the situational stuff was really good. Defense, I thought, had the upper hand both in 'red area' and coming out. I thought the offense moved the ball well in the two-minute.”

McElwain isn’t sure why the Rams have more efficient practices on the weekends, but it is something that everyone will want to see carry over to the season.

“Their approach when they come in the building has been really good,” McElwain said. “It is an elimination of clutter. We have a lot of guys that are coming from class, or leave at ‘halftime’ for class (during the week) and that is part of it, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. That may have something to do with it. We’ll see how we follow up with it now with tomorrow afternoon's scrimmage.”

Again, the coaching staff limited a few players during Saturday’s practice so that they would be able to participate in Sunday’s scrimmage. Senior offensive lineman Mason Myers, nicknamed Moose, rolled his ankle on Saturday, but McElwain said Myers would play if it were gameday.

CSU’s scrimmage begins around 11 a.m. on Sunday. CSURams.com will have a recap featuring statistics and a photo gallery upon completion of the scrimmage.

Impressed: After practice on Saturday, McElwain praised the play of redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Stevens.

“I was really happy to see how Nick Stevens operated,” McElwain said. “He has taken some really good strides and I’ve been impressed with how he is handling things.”

The third-year head coach was asked specifically asked what has impressed his with the backup quarterback and McElwain was quick to compliment his off-field studies.

“I just love the way the guy studies the game,” McElwain said. “His timing is really good. He knows exactly where to get it to. He’s a guy that does a great job in the classroom part of it, then brings it out here.”

Watch The Rams: Fans in the Denver area will be able to get their first look at the 2014 Rams on Saturday, April 12 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. At around 11 a.m. the Rams will begin warming up and will participate in a scrimmage. This will be held in place of the Infinity Park practice.

A week later on Saturday, April 19, CSU will play its annual Green and Gold Game at Hughes Stadium. That will also begin around 11 a.m. Fans who can’t make it out to Hughes for the spring game can catch all the action on CSURams.com as CSU will offer a free live stream.

Get To Know: Throughout Spring Football CSURams.com will feature a series of short videos that will give fans the chance to learn more about their favorite athletes.

Assistant Head Coach/LBs Tim Skipper quotables:

(on linebacker Cory James)
“Cory (James) is definitely a gifted athlete. The thing he has really picked up is just his mental part of the game. Not so much is assignments, but knowing how offenses are trying to attack us, seeing splits, seeing postures of o-lineman.”

(on linebacker Max Morgan)
“Max is do-it-all guy. What I mean by that is that he makes all the checks, all the plays, and he is on the field all the time. The thing that Max needs to keep working on is his own physical qualities because he isn’t the fastest guy, not the strongest guy but he’s a very productive guy.”
