LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a win over then-No. 9 BYU on Friday, the Colorado State volleyball team jumped six spots to No. 8 in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The ranking is CSU’s highest since Nov. 15, 2004, and marks the first time since 2000 and 2001 that the Rams have been ranked in the top 10 in back-to-back seasons. CSU spent five weeks in the top 10 last year, peaking at No. 9.
The six-spot jump is the highest in this week’s poll, aside from Texas A&M, which went from unranked to No. 21. CSU began the year ranked 18th.
The Rams went 4-0 on the week, defeating in-state foe Denver in straight sets before taking the UTEP/New Mexico State Invitational title with sweeps over hosts New Mexico State and UTEP, and a four-set win over BYU. The victory was CSU’s first top-10 win since 2011, and the program’s first away from Moby Arena since 2006. Overall, Head Coach Tom Hilbert owns 11 wins over top-10 teams.
CSU has now been ranked in 17-consecutive polls dating back to last September. All-time, CSU has been ranked in 253 of 465 polls – which ranks 14th nationally – and holds 64 appearances in the top 10 – which ranks 19th.
Following CSU’s win over BYU, the Cougars dropped three spots to No. 12. Wisconsin, CSU’s lone loss, remains at No. 4. Arizona State, the Rams’ next opponent, is ranked 18th this week.
