Mike Bobo adds Terry Fair to complete coaching staff

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State head football coach Mike Bobo has announced the hiring of Terry Fair as the Rams’ cornerbacks coach. Fair comes to Fort Collins from the University of Tennessee where the former Vols first-round NFL pick spent the last two years on the defensive coaching staff.
With Fair’s hire, Bobo has now solidified all nine full-time assistant coach spots on his inaugural staff and finalized position titles. Joining Bobo will be coordinators Will Friend (offense/offensive line), Tyson Summers (defense/safeties) and Jeff Hammerschmidt (special teams/tight ends), as well as assistant coaches Bryan Applewhite (running backs), Marty English (linebackers), Terry Fair (cornerbacks), Ronnie Letson (quarterbacks), Ricky Logo (defensive line) and Alvis Whitted (wide receivers).
“Terry Fair is a rising star in the coaching profession, and is a tremendous addition to our program,” Bobo said. “He was a great player at Tennessee, and in the NFL, and is hungry to teach and mold young men as a coach and mentor. Terry is a technician of corner play, and is going to be an outstanding recruiter. He is from the West, having grown up in Arizona and with family in California, so he is very familiar with one of our primary recruiting areas.”
Fair spent 2013 and ‘14 as the defensive quality control assistant for the Volunteers. Prior to that, he began his coaching career at Phoenix College, where he sent four defensive backs to Division I schools to continue their collegiate careers.
The native of Phoenix, Ariz., was a four-year starter for UT from 1994-97, where he was a two-time All-SEC honoree. Fair went on to be drafted in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft and played six years with the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams.
In his rookie season with the Lions, Fair racked up 39 total tackles, including one sack, and registered a 28.0 kickoff return average on 51 returns. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. This performance earned him NFL All-Rookie and All-Pro honors, and he was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl.
He finished his career with 215 tackles, including one sack from his rookie year, and seven interceptions.
Fair earned a degree in psychology from Tennessee in 2010.
Fair and his wife, Sherlone, have three children, Herandre, Delon and Ariyah.
