Rams sweep Nevada on the road, 3-0

RENO, Nev. – The 20th-ranked Colorado State volleyball team swept Nevada in its first Mountain West road match of 2015, winning 3-0 at the Virginia Street Gym on Thursday night.

CSU (10-3, 3-0 MW) was quick out of the gate, scoring the first three points of the first set. Nevada (6-9, 1-2 MW) would cut the Rams’ lead to one at 8-7, but CSU would respond with eight of the next 10 points to gain a strong 16-9 lead. With Grace Gordon serving late in the set, CSU would score four-straight points to take a 23-14 lead and would go on to win the set 25-16, led by four kills each from Jasmine Hanna and Acacia Andrews.

It was Nevada that would jump out to a 3-0 lead to begin the second frame, and the Wolfpack would lead by three again at 7-4. CSU would tie the match at 7-7, and the set would remain close the rest of the way. CSU held an 18-15 lead, but four-consecutive points from the Wolfpack gave Nevada the lead and forced a CSU timeout. The Rams responded by scoring seven of the final nine points in the set, winning 25-21. The Rams hit .385 for the frame with 13 kills.

CSU dominated much of the third set, taking a 17-8 lead after scoring five-straight points including an ace from Crystal Young, a block by Acacia Andrews and Culbert and then kills from Hanna and Culbert. CSU would clinch the match with a 25-18 win in the third set.

STAT OF THE GAME…
.800 – Acacia Andrews hit .800 for the match with eight kills and no errors. The junior middle blocker also added seven blocks.

NOTES…
• Alex Reid led the Rams with nine kills on .421 hitting (9-1-19). The senior also added eight digs, second-most on the night.
• Jasmine Hanna led CSU with 24 attacks, resulting in eight kills.
• Acacia Andrews hit a career-best .800 with no errors (8-0-10). The hitting percentage is the best for any CSU player this season.
• CSU hit .353 for the match while holding Nevada to .186. CSU also won in the blocking category, 10.5-3.0.
