Colorado State is represented by eight former Rams on current NFL rosters. This offseason saw offensive tackles Erik Pears signed by the San Francisco 49ers after a four-year stint with the Buffalo Bills, and Shelley Smith signed by the Denver Broncos after spending the previous season with the Miami Dlophins.
Ty Sambrailo was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round, and has started at left tackle through the preseason and first two games of the regular season, and Garrett Grayson was selected in the third round by the New Orleans Saints.
In his second year, Shaquil Barrett has become a mainstay of the Broncos defense after a tremendous preseason in which he recorded 16 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble. After spending his rookie season at left guard, Weston Richburg of the New York Giants has returned to his natural position of center, and Crockett Gillmore remains a starting tight end for the Baltimore Ravens.
Kapri Bibbs, who started the season on the Denver Broncos practice squad, was called up to the active roster Saturday, and was a key member of the team's special teams unit.
Below is a look at what the #NextLevelRams did during Week 6 of the NFL season:
Shaquil Barrett (Denver Broncos)- Outside linebacker
Shaquil Barrett was phenomenal yet again for the undefeated Denver Broncos, recording nine total tackles, 1.5 sacks, one pass defense, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in what was his first career start. The second-year linebacker now ranks sixth on the Broncos for total tackles (22), second for sacks (3.5), and first for forced fumbles (3), despite playing five of the first six games of the season in a second-string role. His three forced fumbles are tied for first in the NFL. The Broncos have a bye in Week 7, but will be back in action against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 1.
Barrett's standout performance was the subject of numerous national and local columns, including the following:
Crockett Gillmore (Baltimore Ravens)- Tight end
Gillmore returned to action this week in a loss against the San Francisco 49ers after missing the two previous games with an ankle injury. The former third-round pick pulled in three catches for 30 yards, including an acrobatic 19-yard reception that placed the Ravens inside the 49ers' red zone. Gillmore and the Ravens take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 on Monday Night Football.
Erik Pears (San Francisco 49ers)- Starting right tackle
The 49ers ended their four-game losing streak on Sunday, knocking off the Baltimore Ravens, 25-20. Pears made his sixth straight start for the 49ers at right tackle, and helped block the way for 391 total yards of offense, including 340 through the air. The 49ers will look to establish their first win streak of the season next week as they take on the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
Weston Richburg (New York Giants)- Starting center
The New York Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, 27-7. The Giants offense struggled against a tough Philadelphia defense, putting up just 247 total offensive yards. The Giants will look to bounce back next week against the Dallas Cowboys.
Kapri Bibbs (Denver Broncos)- Backup running back
Bibbs was activated from the Broncos practice squad for the first time of his career. He did not register a carry, but did record a 15-yard kickoff return in his NFL debut.
Ty Sambrailo (Denver Broncos)- Offensive tackle
Ty Sambrailo missed his third consecutive game with a shoulder injury. He is expected to be healthy for the Broncos matchup with the Green Bay Packers following their Week 7 bye.
Garrett Grayson (New Orleans Saints)- Backup quarterback
Garrett Grayson did not play in Thursday night's win against the Atlanta Falcons.
Shelley Smith (Denver Broncos)- Reserve offensive lineman
Shelley Smith was a healthy scratch for the Broncos in a win over the Cleveland Browns.
