POSTGAME QUOTES -- Colorado State Players
QB Nick Stevens
(on his grasp of the new offense)
"I feel good about that. I feel like over the past few weeks it's been just a learning curve that we've all pretty much handled pretty well and we all know what to do now which is good. It's just kind of built upon itself and we've all done a pretty good job out there."
(on whether filling Grayson's shoes is a daunting task)
"I don't think so. I am ready for the challenge. I've been in that situation before, in high school. The guy before me went to Washington and played and I filled those pretty well and I think that whoever gets the job will do a good job of that. Garrett's a great quarterback and we just need to move on and kind of take the reins I guess."
(on handling the new pace of the offense)
"It started slow obviously because of the new system but I think the whole offense has really come together and been able to pick the pace up a little bit. You know o-line is getting to the ball a lot faster than they were the first few weeks and we can kind of go with some tempo because everyone is getting up there and knowing what they do now, so it's good. It should be a weapon for us."
(on the thing he's most enjoyed about this spring)
"Just kind of getting to learn a new offense and kind of being at the same level as everyone else. You know were all in it together with new plays and new protections and stuff like that. Just being able to come together as a team and as an offense and kind of get those things down has been really enjoyable."
(on his feeling of throwing five touchdown passes for the spring game)
"Yeah it felt great. Both teams gave me really good protection and we had guys out there making plays. All five of them were really good catches and they had to run the rest of the way, it wasn't just in the end-zone. I think one of them was in the end-zone, and broken tackles really help you out."
(on the progression of his confidence over the spring)
"Well, day one it was a little rough because you don't really know what's going on out there because it's all new stuff. But I think over these past weeks the whole offense has done a really great job grasping the concepts and kind of coming out with tempo and if you mess it up, mess it up going 100 percent. You know he's right because last week, in the scrimmage, I kind of aimed the ball a little bit too much and I kind of focused this week on letting it rip a little bit and it kind of helped out."
WR Joe Hansley
(on the mentality of the receiver group this spring)
"We're just out here to do what we can for the team. I know it sounds cliché but really we can only run the plays that the coaches call so when we get the opportunity we are going to make the most of it."
(on how fun it was to see the receivers do well today)
"It was fun. It was fun seeing both teams with the green and gold, the receivers doing well. You know (Robert) Ruiz, Trey (Smith) and Sam (Sammie Long) were over there making plays and then our guys over here were making plays too. It was fun."
(on the leadership of both quarterbacks)
"It's great. They are starting to take over the huddle and it comes with knowing the plays more, knowing the offense more. Kind of being able to tell us what we need to do on each play if we don't know. But a lot of it, with the leadership, is taking over the huddle and kind of taking charge."
RB Treyous Jarrells
(on whether it's difficult working with multiple quarterbacks)
"Actually in practice we work with all of them. We do handoff drills, mesh drills to get comfortable with everybody and how everybody hand the ball off, so it's no problem."
(on getting the chance to throw the ball during the game)
"Yeah one-for-one. It felt great. [smiling] Coach told me like, `I'm going to give you one shot. You better not screw it up or you won't get another one,' so I had to make that pass."
(on whether he's bothered about how much passing was done today)
"No, not at all because the pass game is going to up the run game. That's the game of football, you know, we help the receivers, the receivers help us. So I'm glad the passing game is working because I know in the long run the running game is going to be working."
(on how it is running against the defense)
"They're tough. We swarm to the ball. Coach (Tyson) Summers teaches to swarm so you might break one tackle and then you've got another guy, two guys at you and you know it's tough when you got to run the ball and keep a nose for the end zone."
(on whether he thinks the defense gets lost in the hurry-up offense)
"Oh yes, I've seen it in their eyes. I look over a couple times and they look gassed and confused a little. You know, I know what I am doing but they don't know what we're doing so I feel we've got an advantage not only with them not knowing what play is called but we run fast-paced offense so they've got to keep up with us."
(on the play and progression of QB Nick Stevens)
"Man, Nick he's the guy. He's gotten more comfortable, he's got a little swagger to him and you know he stepped up today and I am real proud of him."
