Spring Football Notebook: Practice 9
4/7/2015 12:00:00 AM | Football
The Colorado State football team is well past the midway point of camp, just finishing the ninth practice, and is just coming off the first scrimmage of spring. That, combined with the long break the Rams had over the weekend could have led to Tuesday's practice, which head coach Mike Bobo called "OK."
"It was an OK day with ups and downs," Bobo said. "The offense started out OK and defense played better in the second half, both first and second units. We were a little bit sluggish today, and it wasn't really the tempo I wanted. When you get all day Saturday off after the scrimmage got done there at 12, then Sunday, then Monday and Tuesday, and that space between practices causes this. You have to work through it, got to get over the hump and have a better day on Thursday."
Tuesday was the first time the media was able to talk to Bobo after he reviewed film of last Saturday's scrimmage. Bobo reiterated that he was pleased with what he saw.
"I thought for the most part, the defense played extremely hard," Bobo said. "The offense moved the ball. There was only one punt, and we planned to punt, but there was only one punt with the ones. We just kind of (had) self-inflicted wounds with the ones. With the twos, had a much better day. The one defense played a little bit better than the one offense, and the two offense played a little better than the two defense. Guys are starting to get it, which makes it a little easier to get it going."
He did say that there was plenty of room to improve, as coaches often say.

TOUGHEST ON THE TEAM: After practice on Tuesday, Coach Bobo called Dalyn Dawkins, a transfer running back from Purdue, the toughest player on the team.
"Dawkins is probably the toughest guy on the team. He has no fear. No fear in pass protection, no fear when he runs the ball. I like what I see out of Dawkins."
INJURY UPDATE: Senior safety Kevin Pierre-Louis returned to practice in a limited capacity on Tuesday, while defensive back Kevin Nutt, Jr., did not participate with a mild injury. Coach Bobo said they expect Nutt, Jr., back before the end of spring practice. As for Pierre-Louis, Bobo said he went through 7-on-7 and a team period.
HINES WARD: On Monday night, two-time Super Bowl champion and Coach Bobo's former teammate at Georgia, Hines Ward spoke to the team, before speaking in the Lory Student Center later that evening.
