The 2015 football season unofficially kicked off last week in Las Vegas with the Mountain West Football Media Days, held at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. First-year Head Coach Mike Bobo and student-athletes Trent Matthews and Rashard Higgins represented Colorado State at the two-day event, which featured all 12 MW institutions in addition to print, radio and TV media affiliates from across the nation.
One of the biggest discussions of Media Days was the Rashard `Hollywood' Higgins popcorn, which was on display for media members, along with supplemental information on the star receiver's accolades. The day prior, the athletics department launched HollywoodHiggins.com for the Mountain West Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, all part of Higgins' major awards campaign.
CSU is coming off its first 10-win season since 2002, and returns 17 starters - seven on offense, eight on defense and two on special teams. Six Rams were represented on 10 watch lists for national awards in July, including Higgins (Biletnikoff, Maxwell, Walter Camp), Matthews (Allstate AFCA Good Works, Jim Thorpe, Wuerffel) and senior tight end Steven Walker (John Mackey), who was also named to the Preseason All-Mountain West team. Also at Media Days, former Rams quarterback Garrett Grayson, now with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, was named the 2014-15 Mountain West Male Athlete of the Year.
An inside look at Media Days will be available on YouTube later this week.
