Elliott, Higgins invited to NFL Scouting Combine

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Colorado State standouts DeAndre Elliott and Rashard Higgins received invitations to the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. The four-day event will be held Feb. 23-29 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The pair of invitations adds to a lengthy list of CSU representatives in recent history. The Rams have now had 10 participants in the past three seasons. Prior to 2014, they hadn’t had a representative since Cole Pemberton in 2010.
Elliott started 11 games at cornerback in 2015, tying for the team lead with two interceptions, in addition to 32 tackles, four breakups and a blocked kick. For his career, Elliott played in 47 games and totaled 124 tackles, two fumble recoveries, 27 passes defended and seven interceptions – one of which was returned 76 yards for a touchdown.
Higgins chose to forego his senior season after re-writing the Rams’ record books from 2013-15. In his three seasons, the wide receiver established CSU records for career receptions (239), receiving yards (3,649) and touchdown catches (31), in addition to five other school records. The 2014 consensus All-America selection was one of three finalists for the 2014 Biletnikoff Award, leading the nation with 1,750 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.
Higgins’ workout is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27, along with the quarterbacks, tight ends and 42 other wide receivers. Elliott and his fellow defensive backs will work out on Monday, Feb. 29. The Combine allows top Draft-eligible players the chance to showcase their skills in front of scouts and NFL teams.
The 2016 NFL Draft will be held April 28-30. CSU is one of 15 NCAA FBS schools nationally to have multiple Draft picks in rounds 1-3 in each of the past two seasons, including 2015 second-round selection Ty Sambrailo, who won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos last week.
