FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's soccer program has announced the addition of Seb Furness to its staff as an assistant coach. Furness will primarily work with the team's goalkeepers.
"We were looking for someone to take over the primary responsibility of grooming our goalkeepers and giving them the attention they deserve," Head Coach Bill Hempen said. "Seb fits the bill in every way, and he will be a great addition to their development and our defensive core."
"First of all, I am very grateful to everyone at Omaha FC, University of Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton University for all they have done for me the past two years to help get me in this position," Furness added. "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of this soccer program. It was a big pull for me to get the chance to work with Bill and be part of a very fresh program. The future here is a lot bigger than the past."
Furness spent the past season as a volunteer assistant coach at UNO while also working as the director of the Omaha Football Club, a local youth club where Furness oversaw goalkeeping and recruiting. Prior to his time there, Furness got his start in the coaching profession at Creighton University.
A native of Middlesbrough, England, Furness grew up playing in Middlesbrough FC's development academy. Upon been released by the club, Furness turned his attention to academics and ended up moving his life to the States, where he played for four years at West Texas A&M under head coach Butch Lauffer. Furness closed out his career as the program leader in saves (209) and shutouts (21), and led NCAA Division II in save percentage with .889 as a sophomore. After graduating in 2012, Furness spent two seasons playing for Tindastoll FC in Iceland in the Icelandic First Division.
Furness comes to Colorado State with his wife, Erin, and their two sons, Henry and Roy.
