FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams added a sixth player to its list of incoming freshman for the 2016 season, with middle blocker Paulina Hougaard-Jensen signing on to join the squad.
Hougaard-Jensen, a native of Copenhagen, will bring significant experience at both the club and international levels.
“She’s a very experienced player and she’s played high-level matches against good players,” Head Coach Tom Hilbert said. “She’s in a league where there are Division I players from the Big Ten and all over the place. The level that we are playing at will not scare her.”
Hougaard-Jensen helped the Denmark senior national team to a first place finish at the 2016 Novotel Cup, and led the under-20 squad to the same result in 2015.
Playing for her club team, Brøndby Volley, Hougaard-Jensen was ranked the top middle blocker in the Danish Volleyliga in 2015-16 and also was named the upcoming player of the year. She was named the best middle blocker in the Danish Youth Championship at the under-21 level for three straight years (2013-15) and also took Most Valuable Player honors in 2014-15.
Hougaard-Jensen lead Brøndby Volley to a Nordic Club championship and won the Oresunds liga in 2015-16 and the squad took first in the Danish Cup in 2014 and 2015. Brøndby Volley also won the Danish Cup in both 2014 and 2015.
She will also be the sixth true freshman slated to be on the Rams roster to open 2016, joining Amazing Ashby, Katherine Oleksak, Olivia Nicholson, Breana Runnels and Amanda Young.
