AUGUSTA, Ga. – Colorado State All-America punter Hayden Hunt is this week’s Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, presented by the Augusta Sports Council. The award is Hunt’s second weekly honor, also being recognized following Week 2 a year ago.

Hunt punted seven times in the Rams’ 23-14 victory over UTSA on Saturday, averaging 46.7 yards per punt. Five of his boots were downed inside the Roadrunners’ 20-yard line, including a pair inside the 10. He had two punts go at least 50 yards, with a long of 59 that traveled the distance on the fly, completing flipping the field from the Rams’ 27 to the Roadrunners’ 14.

During his breakout junior season, Hunt was one of three finalists for the prestigious Ray Guy Award, presented annually to college football’s most outstanding punter. He ranked fifth nationally with an average of 46.0 yards per punt, while the Rams’ team net punting average of 42.0 ranked fourth in all of college football and led the nation late in the year. Of Hunt’s 52 punts, 15 went at least 50 yards, 24 were marked down inside opponents’ 20-yard line, 18 were fair caught and just one was a touchback. He ranked first among the award’s 10 semifinalists for percentage of punts inside the 20 and fewest touchbacks, second for net average and fourth four gross average. Prior to the start of the 2016 season, Hunt was a preseason first-team All-America selection by ESPN and SportingNews.
