INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Colorado State punter Hayden Hunt received an invitation to participate in the NFL Combine on Monday. The Combine runs Feb. 28 through March 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Hunt and other special teams participants are scheduled to work out on March 3, with parts of the on-field workouts being broadcast on NFL Network.
"I'm extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to participate in the Combine,” Hunt said. “At the same, I know that nothing is ever given to you, so I'll approach it by continuing to work hard and keep doing the things I've been doing every day to be prepared for the opportunity."
Hunt a former walk-on kicker from Long Beach, Calif., concluded his collegiate career as one of the most recognized punters in Rams history. The two-time Ray Guy Award semifinalist and 2015 All-American ranks second in CSU history with a 43.8 gross punting average.
As a junior in 2015, Hunt was one of three national finalists for the Ray Guy Award, attending the annual Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Atlanta. He earned All-America honors from USA Today and Pro Football Focus that year and ranked fourth in FBS with a 41.96 net punting average. One year later, the first-team All-Mountain West selection was again among the nation’s elite, averaging 44.1 yards per punt with 26 inside opponents’ 20-yard line and 17 over 50 yards. He also added two fake punts on two attempts and three successful onside kicks.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that CSU has been represented at the Combine. Hunt joins Aaron Davis (2015), DeAndre Elliott (2016), Crockett Gillmore (2014), Garrett Grayson (2015), Dee Hart (2015), Rashard Higgins (2016), Weston Richburg (2014) Jared Roberts (2015) and Ty Sambrailo (2015). Of those, five were drafted and six are on NFL rosters. Overall, CSU has had six NFL Draft selections in the past three seasons, with 10 former Rams on active rosters. The 2017 NFL Draft will take place April 27-29.
