Peifer is the first athlete to receive a yearly conference honor in program history
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Peifer has been named to the 2017 Mountain West Women's Soccer All-Newcomer Team. The conference announced the results of all-conference voting on Monday.
Peifer is the first CSU athlete to be named all-conference since the women's soccer program was established at CSU in 2013. Peifer's honor continues a trend of firsts for the program in 2017, as freshman Ally Murphy-Pauletto earned CSU soccer's first respective NCAA Soccer Women's Player of the Week and Mountain West Player of the Week honors this year.
The sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., finished the season with a 1.50 goals-against average, 75 saves and four solo shutouts (five total). She appeared in each of the Rams' first 18 matches this season, making starts in 15.
Peifer's solo shutouts came in draws against SIUE (Sept. 8), Colorado College (Sept. 24), a win at Nevada (Oct. 8) and the program's first-ever win over Utah State (Oct. 15). She also combined with Paige Brandt to shut out then-No. 25 Colorado in the Rams' season opener.
Peifer set or tied numerous records in her first year with CSU. The first record she broke in 2017 was the program's single-match saves record, as she made 11 saves to lift the Rams to a draw at SIUE. Peifer set another single-match standard when she stopped two penalty kick attempts at UNLV on Oct. 6, marking the only match in which a CSU goalkeeper has made saves on multiple penalty kicks. Her four solo shutouts for 2017 also match a single-season record.
The Colorado State women's soccer team loses a senior class of five to graduation, but Peifer is among 22 players set to return for the Rams next season. Of those 22 players, 18 picked up starting experience this past season and eight started at least half of the Rams' matches.
