Rams to face players from Cleveland State, DePaul, Indiana, Notre Dame, Western Michigan
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams tennis squad will head to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the three-day Bronco Super Challenge hosted by Western Michigan. The tournament begins Friday.
CSU will face competitors from the host Broncos, as well as players from Cleveland State, DePaul, Indiana and Notre Dame.
"We're playing some good teams at this tournament," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "These teams will help prepare us for Mountain West competition. It will be beneficial to see how we match up."
Camerota also appreciates how it's an opportunity for much of his team to play near their homes and in front of family.
"It's good to get back to the Midwest," Camerota said. "Five current players are from the Midwest, and Solene's (Crawley) family is all from Michigan.
"It's also good because it's a place we recruit," Camerota added. "Recruits get to watch us play and it reminds them that we play in the Midwest."
The tournament format will consist of doubles and singles matches on both Friday and Saturday, then just singles play on Sunday morning.
The event is CSU's first since putting up a good showing at home for the Jon Messick Invitational, Oct. 6-8. Freshman Priscilla Palermo won the overall tournament championship, edging out teammate Alyssa Grijalva.
