Pick Six: Six takeaways from CSU’s loss to Boise State

11/12/2017 2:30:00 PM | Football

The Colorado State Rams wore their #StatePride uniforms on Saturday night, looking to beat the Boise State Broncos for the first time.

The Broncos scored 14 points in the final 1:41 of regulation to tie the game at 52-52 and force overtime. Boise State scored on their first possession of extra time, and forced a CSU fumble on the Rams' possession to seal the 59-52 win.

The Rams got off to a hot start, taking 28-3 and 35-10 leads after scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions.

The loss was a heartbreaker for the Rams, who have dropped their last three games following a 4-0 start in Mountain West play.

DAWKINS IS A WORKHORSE
Running back Dalyn Dawkins had 32 carries for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns last night.

The 32 rushes was a career high for the senior, topping his previous high total that he set just last week at Wyoming (29). Over the last two weeks, Dawkins has toted the ball 61 times.

Dawkins' productivity this season continues to impress.  He has six 100-yard outings in seven league games, increasing his career 100-yard game total to 15 in the process. He is now alone in second place all-time at CSU in career 100-yard games, only behind Steve Bartalo (28).

The Louisville, Ky., product has always been a threat in the passing game, and Saturday was no exception. Dawkins had a career-high 67 receiving yards, increasing his career total to 613. He has the most receiving yards of any CSU running back since Scott Whitehouse finished his career (1984-88) with 769.

ALL ABOARD THE BODDIE TRAIN
With 13 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns, redshirt freshman Rashaad Boddie had a breakout evening in the backfield for the Rams.

Boddie's first collegiate TD came at the 11:19 mark of the second quarter, giving the Rams a 28-3 lead:

NEW CAREER PASSING TD LEADER
Nick Stevens threw two TD passes on Saturday evening, reaching 65 for his career at CSU. He is now CSU's all-time leader in career passing touchdowns, eclipsing Garrett Grayson, who had 64 from 2011-14.

Stevens set the record on his 912th career pass attempt, in his 31st start. Grayson started 35 games as a Ram and finished his career with a school-record 1,113 pass attempts.

The Murrieta, Calif.,  native has 24 passing TDs this season, which is the second-most in program history behind Grayson's 32 in 2014.

PUTTING UP 50
The Rams scored 52 points against Boise State, marking the third time this season they've scored 50-plus in a game.

Under Head Coach Mike Bobo, the Rams have scored 50 or more points six times (once in 2015, twice in 2016, three times this season). CSU has scored at least 40 points in 12 games during the same span.

It was also the first time the Broncos had allowed 50 points since also conceding 52 to Utah State on Oct. 16, 2015. CSU scored 21 points in the first quarter – becoming the first Boise State opponent to do so since New Mexico scored 28 on Nov. 8, 2014.

#STATEPRIDE UNIFORMS A HIT
CSU donned its #StatePride uniforms against Boise State. The Colorado State/Under Armour collaboration was a hit on social media upon its unveiling, and was again Saturday night:

"Our partnership with Under Armour provides for specialty uniforms and the UA design team does a tremendous job driving the creative process," Director of Athletic Joe Parker said about the concept.  "The use of our iconic state flag as the base element for this uniform speaks to the pride across Colorado for the University and also our mission as a land grant institution."

PLAYING FOR THE SENIORS
Saturday's contest against San Jose State is CSU's regular season finale. It will also be Senior Day, where two dozen Rams will be recognized for their contributions to Colorado State University and its football program.

"They've done a lot for this university and this football program and I expect those seniors to lead and represent Colorado State the right way next week," Head Coach Mike Bobo said postgame.

The Rams will host the Spartans for a 1:30 p.m. MT contest on Saturday. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network, and tickets are available here.
