Athlon names Gallup an All-American heading into 2017 season

CSU receiver among 10 wide outs recognized by Athlon
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Colorado State wide receiver Michael Gallup was listed as a preseason Fourth-Team All-American heading into the 2017 season, the outlet announced on Tuesday.
Athlon previously named Gallup to its preseason first-team All-Mountain West squad.
The senior is among eight wide receivers chosen:
- First Team: James Washington (Oklahoma State), Christian Kirk (Texas A&M)
- Second Team: Courtland Sutton (SMU), Calvin Ridley (Alabama)
- Third Team: Allen Lazard (Iowa State), Dante Pettis (Washington)
- Fourth Team: Anthony Miller (Memphis), Michael Gallup (Colorado State)
In addition, wide receivers Richie James (Middle Tennessee State) and Ahmmon Richards (Miami) were recognized in the all-purpose offensive player category as second- and third-team honorees, respectively.
Gallup was one of two MW players recognized by Athlon, with San Diego State's Rashaad Penny landing a third-team slot as a kick return specialist.
In his first year of football at the Division I level, Gallup earned first-team All-MW honors after recording 76 catches for 1,272 yards and 14 touchdowns. His touchdown total ranked eighth in the NCAA and was the second-most in a season in CSU history. His receiving yardage total was 14th in the nation and tied for the league lead. Gallup's productivity continued to rise as the season wore on, including scoring a touchdown in each of his final games while averaging 128 yards per game over that stretch.
