Rams hold first day of full-squad practice at new stadium
Â
Entering his third season, Head Coach Mike Bobo was pleased with the team's effort on day one, but conceded that they still have a long way to go.
Â
"We've got a lot of work to do," he said. "The energy is always good at the start of camp, but we have to learn how to fight through so we can be more consistent on game days and handle adversity better. You do that by creating it in practice and the guys did a good job today."
Â
The team held three days of developmental practices, beginning Monday, that included freshmen, redshirt freshmen and other newcomers.
Â
"We talked about it as a staff this morning, how big those practices were for the newcomers and redshirt freshmen, to get them acclimated to practice and the tempo," Bobo said. "From going into drills, how to break a huddle, the calls, the quarterback's cadence, the checks on defense, the alignment. We were able to slow down and coach them a bit to help them function."
Â
Expectations continue to climb for the Rams in 2017, and Bobo and his squad knows the only way to meet those is to take the season one day at a time.
Â
"The stadium isn't going to get us ready to play, the opponent isn't going to get us ready to play," Bobo said. "We have to focus on today. We did a good job today of doing that, and we have to do that every day. That's coaches and players."
Â
The team was in shorts and helmets today, and will gradually add more equipment before donning full pads for the first time on Tuesday. With the fall semester beginning on Aug. 21, the Rams will hold their 19 allotted practices and two scrimmages between now and then.

Aug. 5 Community Open House and scrimmage
August 5, 2017, will be a day of celebration for Colorado State University and the Fort Collins community. Several major events will come together around the much-anticipated first public look inside the new, on-campus multipurpose stadium, highlighted by CSU's annual Community Open House.
Â
Events are scheduled throughout the day in the vicinity of the stadium. Inside, the Colorado State football team will hold an open practice, presented by Scheels, to allow fans to get their first look at Mike Bobo's 2017 team and also experience the stadium for the first time. The clear bag policy will be in effect for all fans entering the stadium, and Scheels will distribute 5,000 clear bags at stadium gates.
