The Colorado State Rams donned full pads today for the first time in their fifth practice of fall camp.

"It's Day 5 today, and Day 8 actually for the guys from our development camp," Head coach Mike Bobo said. "They're a little bit tired and they're a little bit sore. We're having to add a little more energy and juice to the practice. I've been impressed so far with how the guys have worked and prepared this summer for training camp. We're not there yet by any means. We're not even close to a finished product, but I'm seeing improvement each day."

Competition has always been something that Bobo expects, but with the continual influx of talent into the program, players are noticing it more than ever.

"Guys are picking up the system really well and they're picking it up really fast," senior defensive back Jake Schlager said. "There's a lot of competition right now. You have to go out there and do exactly what coach asks you to do, and if you don't, somebody else will. It makes you go out there and compete every day because you can't take anything for granted."

Tuesday also marked the annual media day for CSU football, an event that was attended by media outlets from all over the state. Participating in the press conference were Bobo, offensive coordinator Will Friend, defensive coordinator Marty English, special teams coordinator Jamie Bryant and a number of senior student athletes. A recurring theme that they all spoke to, inevitably, was the brand new stadium and facilities.

"When you think about the fact that we're kicking off the 2017 football season in a brand new stadium, you have to be thankful," Schlager said. "It's overwhelming, to be honest with you, to see where this university has come and how far it's going to continue to go. We have to teach the freshmen to be appreciative of what we have."

"The commitment that our university and our administration made in this new on-campus stadium is second-to-none," Bobo stated. "Guys are coming to school to get an education and to play football. They want to come somewhere that what they're (doing) is important. Our academic success is well respected and our academic student services give us a lot of support. Then on the football side of it, this is where they're training, developing and where they're going to play. We capture all of those things here."

The team will have the day off tomorrow - a much-needed day of rest and recovery after five consecutive days of camp. They will be back in full pads on Thursday and Friday, before the first scrimmage at the Community Open House on Saturday.

Aug. 5 Community Open House and scrimmage
August 5, 2017, will be a day of celebration for Colorado State University and the Fort Collins community. Several major events will come together around the much-anticipated first public look inside the new, on-campus multipurpose stadium, highlighted by CSU's annual Community Open House.

Events are scheduled throughout the day in the vicinity of the stadium. Inside, the Colorado State football team will hold an open practice, presented by Scheels, to allow fans to get their first look at Mike Bobo's 2017 team and also experience the stadium for the first time. Tickets are free, but must be claimed at the stadium ticket office on Aug. 5 to allow entry into the venue. The clear bag policy will be in effect for all fans entering the stadium, and Scheels will distribute 5,000 clear bags at stadium gates.
