Rams put on show in official unveiling of stadium to the public

The Colorado State Rams held their first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday at the new on-campus stadium. The scrimmage, presented by Scheels, was held in conjunction with the annual Colorado State University Community Open House and marked the official unveiling of the brand new facility. Attendance for the scrimmage was 21,447.
"I thought it was a great day for Colorado State—not just Colorado State Football," head coach Mike Bobo said. "To see our fans out here two and three hours before the game just gave me chills… I believe our guys felt it. It was our first time in the stadium with people in the stands and guys were walking around like they do before a game. There were nerves and some pacing back and forth. I like the buildup of coming into the stadium and playing in front of people."

Senior wide receiver Michael Gallup starred offensively, recording 197 yards and two touchdowns on six catches. Quarterback Nick Stevens completed 10-of-15 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns, while Collin Hill accounted for 193 yards on 10-of-24 passing. Each quarterback also threw one interception.
"Collin was able to extend plays with his legs. He did a nice job of stepping up in the pocket, but you also saw him escape and make some plays on the run," Bobo said. "As far as his mobility and the health of his leg, he's 100 percent... Nick looked great. I thought he was very efficient and knew what he was doing all day. He was sharp throwing the ball."
Redshirt freshman Rashaad Boddie saw the most carries, rushing 15 times for 38 yards and two scores. Carrying the ball six times for 42 yards and a touchdown, redshirt senior Dalyn Dawkins led the Rams in rushing yards.
"I want to mention No. 28, Rashaad Boddie," Bobo said. "He's got to get a little better with his vision when running the ball, but he is a runaway train back there. He has improved so much from his first year and I'm really proud of the way he's progressed."
Almost all defensive players saw the field in the scrimmage, as 27 different Rams recorded a tackle. True freshman safety Jadon Walker was all over the field, recording a team-high eight tackles to go with 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Cornerbacks Justin Sweet and Anthony Hawkins each logged an interception, the latter of which was returned for a touchdown. Junior college transfer Kavapele Maka forced a fumble and sophomore defensive end Arjay Jean led the Rams with two quarterback hurries.
"Defensively, I thought [junior linebacker] Josh Watson made some plays," Bobo stated. "He had a couple key stops. I thought [freshman linebacker] Emmanuel Jones did a nice job on the tight end. He's been a very impressive guy for us all camp."
Walker wasn't the only true freshman to stand out on Sautrday, as a number of #RAMPAGE17 members made their presence felt. Wide receiver E.J. Scott was the second-leading receiver with five catches for 87 yards, while fellow wide receiver Warren Jackson and tight end Cameron Butler each recorded two catches, going for 15 and 34 yards, respectively. Defensive lineman Ellison Hubbard recorded two tackles-for-loss, one sack, three pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. Quarterback Justice McCoy was 2-of-3 passing for 19 yards, and running back Marcus McElroy rushed for 16 yards and a touchdown. The only punter to see action, Ryan Stonehouse, punted five times with a 41.6-yard average and a long of 51.
"Ellison Hubbard, they couldn't block him all day," Bobo said. "He was in the backfield all day and they could not block him. He made a lot of plays and had the opportunity to make a lot more. He's a guy that has a chance to be a very good player for us."
