FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State volleyball team hosted members of Head Coach Tom Hilbert's NETwork group, along with the members of the local media, at the program's annual preseason media/booster kickoff BBQ on Wednesday evening in Moby Area.
Members of the NETwork group were invited to attend the end of Wednesday's practice session and got a glimpse of the 2017 squad. The final session included a live 6-on-6 drill, which provided great competition and excitement as the both sides were tied at 24-all late.
The fans and media then transitioned into Bob Davis Hall, located on the south concourse of Moby Arena. A buffet dinner was provided, with Hilbert opening with a breakdown of the team and a Q&A with the media.

Hilbert discussed the timeline of naming a starting libero after losing senior starter, Cassidy Denny due to graduation. Â
"By the end of training camp," Hilbert said. "That is when I would like to. But it is important to know that when you do that and make those decisions before you ever play a match. Then you start playing matches and you think 'man, we have to do something different.' Sometime that stuff just dawns on you after the player is on the court."
Hilbert also talked about being ready for the season opener against Duke on August 25 and UCF on August 26.
"We won't really start prepping for those teams until the week of." Hilbert said. "We will have four days to get ready and we will start doing match preparation at that time."
Also mentioned at the event was the summer trip to Europe and the affect it had on the team.
"That trip was good; it was good for team bonding and it was good for volleyball since we got to get out and compete," Hilbert said. "What was fun was that we went out and played matches without any practices. We practiced before we left, but we didn't have any practices on the road. We just went and played. We played some really good teams, but it was really about being together and have the team bond and playing some teams off the cuff."
CSU began two-a-day practices on Tuesday, following report day on Monday. The Rams will begin their 21st season under Hilbert on Friday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m., against Duke at Moby Arena and fans are encouraged to wear white for "White Out."
