CSU’s men and women retain regional rankings of fifth and sixth, respectively
NEW ORLEANS – For the third consecutive week, the Colorado State men's cross country's team is ranked at No. 18 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. The organization's week two poll was released on Tuesday.
The No. 18 ranking for the Rams' men is their highest in the week two poll since 2003, when the Rams were ranked No. 8. The Rams' No. 18 ranking in the preseason poll was also their highest preseason position since 2002, as was their No. 18 position in week one.
CSU men's cross country has been ranked for 32 consecutive polls under sixth-year head cross country coach Art Siemers, dating back to the week three rankings in 2013. Additionally, CSU has been ranked within the top 20 each week since week five of the 2016 season. CSU remains the highest-ranked men's cross country team in the Mountain West, topping Boise State (No. 26) and Air Force (receiving votes).
The Rams' men remained ranked at fifth in the Mountain Region in the USTFCCCA's 2017 NCAA Division I Week Two Regional Rankings, while the Rams' women remained ranked at No. 6 regionally. Last season, the Rams finished fourth on the men's side on sixth on the women's side at the NCAA Mountain Regional before the men's team's highest national finish (No. 17) since 2003.
The Colorado State cross country team continues its 2017 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Roy Griak Invitational. The prestigious meet is hosted by the University of Minnesota, and is held from the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. CSU is the second-highest-ranked men's team competing at the meet (No. 13 Iowa State), and returns 2016 Griak champion Jerrell Mock.
