ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State volleyball team cruised its way to its fourth-consecutive Mountain West sweep on Thursday night with a win at New Mexico. The sweep was the first on the road for the Rams in Mountain West action.
Colorado State began the first set jumping out to a 6-1 lead before increasing it to 14-4 on its way to a first-set victory. Breana Runnels led the Rams' offense with eight kills on 14 attempts.
The Rams again took an early lead in the second set, but the Lobos fought back to tie the frame at 7-7. CSU then manufactured a 6-0 run to lead 13-7 before cruising to a 25-16 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
In the final frame, CSU again started strong, leading at 6-2 and at 15-4 before finishing the match 25-15. The Rams hit a hot .500 in the final set, led by Runnels with seven kills on 15 swings.

Head Coach Tom Hilbert on the match…
"We did a good job and we were prepared. We blocked the people we needed to block early and it created some hitting error situations for New Mexico. And besides that, Breana Runnels played unbelievable tonight; if she plays like tonight, we'll beat everyone we play. We were scoring points in big chunks, but we can't get used to that because I don't think that is going to happen against very good teams. We did a really good job in the serving pressure keeping New Mexico out of what they wanted to do. We also transitioned well with our outside hitting."
Hilbert on the blocking in the match…
"Katie Oleksak and Kirstie Hillyer were really good at blocking tonight and Hillyer had some nice solo blocks too. All of that adds up. What that does more than anything is make New Mexico uncomfortable and they start taking shots that they don't always have."
STAT OF THE DAY
Breana Runnels floored 18 kills to lead the Rams, while also posting a .371 hitting percentage. Her 18 kills were the third time this season reaching that mark. The outside hitter also added five digs and a block.
NOTES
- Kirstie Hillyer recorded nine kills, while leading the team with a .533 hitting percentage and controlling the net with seven blocks – two solo.
- Paulina Hougaard-Jensen followed with a .400 hitting clip and adding six kills.
- Jessica Jackson posted seven kills, while also adding three digs.
- Katie Oleksak paced the offense with 35 assists, while also adding seven digs and seven blocks – one solo.
- Olivia Nicholson led the back row with 10 digs as the libero.
- Amanda Young returned to action for the first time in conference play and recorded nine digs.
- The Rams increase its winning streak against the Lobos to 12 matches, with their last loss coming in 2012 in Albuquerque.
