Rams’ men ranked in top 10 for sixth time in last seven polls, dating back to last season

NEW ORLEANS – Following its program-best performance at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational last week, the Colorado State men's cross country team has moved up a spot to No. 9 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's (USTFCCCA) weekly national poll. The organization's week four rankings were released on Tuesday.

Colorado State men's cross country's places among the nation's top 10 for the sixth time in the past seven USTFCCCA regular season polls, ranking no lower than 11th over that span. Also among that span was a four-week stretch in the USTFCCCA's regular-season top 10, its longest period ranked at least that high in program history.

In the USTFCCCA's regional rankings, CSU's men have moved up to No. 3 in the highly competitive Mountain Region, marking their highest regional ranking in program history. The Rams' men rank behind the nation's top two teams, Northern Arizona and BYU, respectively, and ahead of No. 10 Air Force and No. 11 Colorado, among others. The men's team's regional ranking at No. 4 in prior weeks was its best prior to rising to third this week.

Colorado State placed sixth at the loaded Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, matching its highest team finish at the meet en route to head-to-head wins over 11 ranked teams. The Rams were led on the men's side by senior Cole Rockhold, whose ninth-place finish of 224 runners was the highest by any individual Ram in meet history. Senior Eric Hamer placed 22nd, marking the third-highest finish by any individual Ram all-time at the meet.

The Colorado State cross country team has next week off from competition before returning to action at Pre-Nationals and at the FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday, Oct. 13. Pre-Nationals will begin at 9 a.m. MT/10 a.m. CT from the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis. The FHSU Tiger Open is slated for an 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT start from the Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kan.
