Sophomore among 69 players nominated

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Colorado State sophomore fullback Adam Prentice has been announced as one of 69 nominees for the 2018 Burlsworth Trophy. Prentice has been CSU's nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy for two consecutive years.

The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding football player in American who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Each nominee must have begun his first season of participation with an FBS football program without financial aid of any kind from his university's athletic department.

Prentice, who was voted by his teammates as one of four season captains during training camp, has played in all nine games for the Rams this season and has made four starts. Prentice has appeared in every game for the Rams over the past two seasons, including 10 starts.

This season, Prentice has totaled four receptions for 26 yards. He also leads the Rams in special teams tackles with seven.

After the 2017 season, Pro Football Focus rated Prentice as the highest-graded fullback in the FBS. His 82.5 rating led all players at his position for the 2017 campaign.

The Clovis High School product walked-on to the CSU football team prior to the 2015 season and redshirted in his first year on campus. He was awarded a scholarship during preseason camp in 2016 and was named the team's starting fullback. Just days before the first game of the 2016 season, Prentice tore his ACL in practice, forcing him to miss the entire year.

Prentice, who is a civil engineering major, is also CSU's nominee for the Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team and is on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. Both awards honor football student-athletes for community involvement.

The Fresno, Calif., native was also one of 12 CSU student athletes selected to participate in a service and cultural immersion trip to Petersfield, Jamaica in May 2018, called Green & Global.

Recent CSU players to be nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy include:
The 2017 winner of the Burlsworth Trophy was quarterback Luke Falk from Washington State. A three-year starter for WSU, Falk broke the PAC-12 record for career passing yards during his senior season. He is now a member of the Miami Dolphins. The 2015 and 2016 winner was Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield who was the first pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
