Rams rebound to take win over Eagles in neutral-site meeting
LINCOLN, Neb. — The Colorado State Rams rebounded from a tough loss on Friday to defeat Eastern Michigan, 4-1, at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday.
CSU (2-3) took the doubles point and three singles victories to pick up the win. The loss was the first of the season for Eastern Michigan (2-1).
The Rams made quick work of doubles, winning at No. 1 and 3. Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo won 6-1 on court No. 1, while Riley Reeves and Emma Corwin were victorious by the same score at No. 3. It was the first time this spring that Reeves and Corwin had been paired in doubles.
Eastern Michigan made things interesting early in singles action, with the Eagles' Jeannie Lozowski winning in straight sets at No. 6.
Freshman Emily Luetschwager regained the lead for the Rams with her own straight-set victory at No. 2 over Marie Mayerova, 6-1, 6-2. Fellow freshman Emma Corwin and sophomore Alyssa Grijalva also tallied singles wins for the Rams to seal the 4-1 victory.
"We came out with good energy and played for each other," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota explained. "We played intelligently and went after them from the start without worrying about the result. That's how we need to approach every match."
Grijalva improved her singles record for the spring to a team-best 4-1.
CSU will head back out on the road next weekend for three matches in two days in Las Vegas. The Rams will play UC Riverside and Youngstown State on Friday, Feb. 10, followed by a matchup against Mountain West foe UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 11.
