Fischer, Mock receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual recognition
NEW ORLEANS - The Colorado State women's and men's cross country teams have each been named U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams, while seniors Grant Fischer and Jerrell Mock were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals. The organization announced each respective accolade on Friday.
The CSU women posted a 3.61 team GPA, improving upon last year's 3.58, while the Rams' men registered a team GPA of 3.29. Each of CSU's women's and men's teams well exceeded requirements for the honor, as teams are required a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for recognition.
Mock earned individual recognition for the second consecutive cross country season, while Fischer picked up his first honor for cross country. In order to be considered for individual honors, athletes were required to finish as either an All-Region or All-American performer and needed to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.
Each of Fischer and Mock were named All-Region performers this season after respective finishes of sixth and 10th of 121, respectively, at the 2017 NCAA Mountain Regional in Logan, Utah. Those performances lifted the Colorado State men to a berth to the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships, where the team earned a No. 9 national finish, the program's best since 1978.
This indoor season, Fischer is currently the NCAA's No. 20 performer in the 3,000 meters, and is slated compete in his signature indoor event, the 5,000 meters, at this weekend's Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. Mock has exhausted his indoor eligibility, but will return to competition for the Rams this outdoor season.
