Rams, Broncos set for rematch in Boise

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams are headed to Boise, Idaho for the 2018 Mountain West Tournament, where they are prepared for a match against host Boise State in the first round on Thursday.

CSU will play Boise State at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Appleton Tennis Center. The victor of the Rams-Broncos battle will face No. 3 seed San Jose State on Friday afternoon.

The first round meeting will be a rematch for the two sides. The Broncos visited Fort Collins on April 1, defeating the Rams 4-2.

CSU took the doubles point that day and sophomore Alyssa Grijalva won her singles match in straight sets, but the team knows it will need to be better to hope to advance to Friday.

"I feel good about it and I think we've gotten better since we played them last," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We're looking forward to the opportunity to play them again. Doubles will be big. We feel good about our doubles...  it's going to be an important point; but also if we lose it, we have to move on and realized there are still six points left out there in the singles."

Grijalva has been stalwart in singles play this season, boasting an overall record of 20-6, including a 14-4 mark at No. 3 singles this spring. She is also 3-1 against league foes in dual match play.

Freshmen Emily Luetschwager (12-7) and Emma Corwin (10-9) also have double-digit win totals this spring. Luetschwager will be aiming for her 20th overall singles win of the seaosn on Thursday.

Grijalva and freshman Priscilla Palermo have led the Rams in doubles all year, holding a 16-8 record as a duo with an 11-6 mark at the No. 1 spot this spring. They own two wins in league play, including a 6-3 triumph over Wiktoria Nosek and Anja Dokic of Boise State on April 1.

UNLV earned the No. 1 overall seed for the 2018 MW Tournament. The Rebels, No. 2 seed Fresno State, No. 3 San Jose State, No. 4 San Diego State and No. 5 Wyoming all received first-round byes.
