NEW YORK — Colorado State sophomore Cameron Butler has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list, The Friends of John Mackey announced today.
The award is given annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate tight end.
Butler had one of the best seasons by a freshman tight end in program history last year. His 12 catches and 171 yards were the most by a freshman tight end at CSU since Kory Sperry in 2004 (15, 225), while his three touchdowns are the most since Matt Bartz scored four in 2002.
The Columbia, S.C., native had a 50-yard touchdown reception against San Jose State in the 2017 regular season finale. Only one CSU player, Biletnikoff Award finalist Michael Gallup, had a longer touchdown reception season.
