Rams fired up for season opener versus Hawai'i

Just eight days away from its season opener against Hawai'i, the Colorado State football team continued preparation for kickoff of the 2018 season Friday with a solid practice on the fields west of Canvas Stadium.

The team conducted a more standard practice today, following its game-day walkthrough inside the stadium yesterday.

The Rams have been getting all they can out of each and every day of fall camp, but they're hungry for a real game-day environment.

"I'm ready to be in a game and ready for a test," senior kicker Wyatt Bryan said. "I'm ready to stop playing each other and play against someone else."

CSU has been "playing each other" for three weeks now, including two scrimmages. Although the first scrimmage coincided with the Community Open House on Aug. 4 and fans were welcomed to watch, the team knows that nothing will compare to the atmosphere around kickoff against the Warriors around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25.

Last year, CSU opened its season by playing the first on-campus home game in nearly 50 years when it hosted Oregon State at Canvas Stadium. The Rams routed the Beavers, 58-27, in front of a raucous sold-out crowd.

"Last year was awesome; that was one of the greatest days I've ever been a part of," Bryan said. "Hopefully there's a bunch of people there for Hawai'i and it's another awesome experience."

For CSU's newcomers, the opener against Hawai'i will be there first taste of what an on-campus game day in Fort Collins is like.

"I'm ecstatic," said V.J. Banks, a graduate transfer from Rice entering his first season at CSU. "Being in a new environment with a lot of energy and intensity… it makes me excited. It's a refreshing feeling. I'm super glad to be out here with some guys and can grow socially and spiritually and on the football field. I think it's going to be super exciting. Adrenaline is going to be pumping. I can't wait for Hawai'i."

Single-game tickets, season ticket packages—which start as low as $250 for seven games—and three-game mini-plans, beginning at $101, remain on sale. Tickets to the Aug. 31 Rocky Mountain Showdown in Denver also are on sale now. Tickets may be purchased by visiting CSURams.com/tickets or by calling the Rams Sales Team at 800-491-RAMS (7267).
