Peifer was in goal for both draws last week, including a 10-save shutout at Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. – After helping lead the Colorado State women's soccer team to a pair of draws against quality road opposition last week, redshirt junior goalkeeper Hunter Peifer was tabbed the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Monday.
This marks the first-ever Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honor in the program's now-six-year history, and the second weekly conference honor for a Colorado State student-athlete overall. Last season, forward Ally Murphy-Pauletto became the first to receive a weekly conference accolade when she was named the Sept. 4, 2017 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week.
Peifer finished the weekend 0-0-2 with a 0.41 goals-against average, 15 saves and a .938 save percentage. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native was in net for all 220 minutes for the Rams' double-overtime draws at Colorado and at Denver.
The redshirt junior made 10 saves in her shutout of the Buffaloes, marking the second-most by a single player in a single match in program history. Before Sunday, Colorado State had lost its only other two true road matches played against Colorado in Boulder. The performances by Peifer and CSU came against a CU team that was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll and was considered for the Top Drawer Soccer DI Top 25.
Her 10 saves at CU included one-on-one situations with CU's Megan Massey and Tatum Barton in the 48th and 83rd minutes, respectively, to preserve the shutout. Peifer made similar stops in a five-save effort on the road against the Summit League's preseason favorite, Denver.
The Colorado State women's soccer team plays Northern Colorado in its home opener on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. MT from CSU Soccer Field.
